Aragon MotoGP 2019 Preview: Márquez’ private feud
Just five days after the battle in San Marino, the MotoGP World Championship is getting ready for its last European race of the season. The Motorland Aragón Circuit in Teruel (Spain) is hosting the Aragon MotoGP 2019 this weekend (September 20th -22nd), the fourteenth scale in the calendar.

Marc Márquez arrives at this home race, and one of his favourite circuits, with 93 points more than Andrea Dovizioso in the standings. The Spaniard also holds the record for the pilot with the most triumphs at the Spaniard track (2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018).

After his eighth triumph of the year in Misano, Marquez faces the Aragón GP in great spirits. On top of that, he will be competing before his home fans surrounded by a fantastic atmosphere, all of which adds to his motivation. As if all of that wasn’t enough to start bidding for Marquez, the Spaniard’s Japanese bike (Honda) is also perfectly suited to the Spanish track with six wins in 2011-2013 & 2016-2018.

Marquez´s rivals

Under such circumstances, Marquez’ ill-fated rivals will come against a wall as tall as the one that houses the circuit itself. Marquez, in any case, knows he should never let his guard down with the pack of wolves behind him always on the prowl.

Among the rivals that will try and get in the way of the Spaniard’s success will be Fabio Quartararo. After challenging Marc to a thrilling last-lap duel in Italy, the French rookie has earned the honour of being one of Marquez’ current toughest enemies. The Petronas SRT rider is dazzling everyone on board his Yamaha. In fact, he is regularly seen ahead of the official Iwata machines.

Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales in particular, face this race with great determination. It seems that the M1 is gradually starting to bear some fruit for both. The pilot from Rosas sealed in Italy his second consecutive podium and fifth of the season. According to Viñales himself, some slight changes in his driving style have worked the miracle.

Things are also going reasonably well for his teammate. Rossi nearly got a podium before his fans in Rimini, something he hasn’t done since the start of the season (Argentina and the United States). Motorland is also one of the few tracks that the pilot from Tavullia has yet to conquer.

Another rival that could challenge the leader at the Aragón MotoGP 2019 is Andrea Dovizioso. The Ducati #4 was second in this very track a year ago and demonstrated how the Desmosedici feels very at ease in Teruel.

Incidentally, it was also onboard another red missile that Jorge Lorenzo took the pole in 2018, from which point on he began his ordeal of accidents and injuries. All in all, the machines form Borgo Panigale could well be seen at the head of the race.

Lorenzo, who is still not fully recovered from his back injury, will continue trying to make some ground at this one of his favourite Grand Prix. The Honda #99 has set himself the goal of finishing half a minute from the winner. At the Marco Simoncelli Circuit, he finished 47 seconds behind. His two victories (2015, 2016) in Motorland on the back of a Yamaha are now a distant memory.

Finally, fans should also keep an eye on the Suzukies of Álex Rins and Joan Mir. The pilot from Barcelona, who was fourth in Aragon in 2018, wants to make up for last week’s fall in Italy. His partner, who came in eighth in Misano, has demonstrated that he is completely recovered from the accident he suffered at the Brno tests. One of his goals for this weekend’s race in Aragon will be to continue learning and getting experience in Aragon MotoGP 2019.
