Fernando Alonso could compete in the Bathurst 1000

Fernando Alonso has shown interest in taking part in the Bathurst 1000; the famous super-endurance touring car race that takes place every year at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia.

That is what the head of McLaren, Zak Brown, has confirmed to the web portal Motorsport.com: “Fernando is very interested in Bathurst. He wants to go and win all the big races and he considers Bathurst to be a major sporting event. He thinks the cars are great and I wouldn’t rule out seeing him in one of them in the future. However, I do not think it would be this year, maybe in 2020. “

Brown-Alonso, a duo beyond Formula 1

Brown knows what he is talking about as he part-owns the Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) team, which participates in the Australian race. On top of that Brown has a long professional relationship and a personal friendship with the Spanish champion 8Fernando Alonso) and has always supported his projects outside of Formula 1, such as he did with his first IndyCar experience in 2017.

Since his farewell to Formula 1 at the last Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi in 2018, Alonso has explored various other racing disciplines. He continues pursuing his goal of becoming the most complete race driver in history and things are adding up for him this year.

He has won the 24 Hours of Daytona (IMSA) and the WEC’s 8 Hours of Sebring with the Toyota Gazoo Racing team.

Alonso’s schedule for this spring

Alonso’s next few races are also part of the World Endurance Championship Super Season 2018-2019 which he hopes to win. On May the 4th, he will take part in the 6 Hours of SpaFrancorchamps.

If he wins, and the other Toyota (the #8) does not get any points, he will be crowned in Belgium. Otherwise, everything will be decided on the last race of the season; the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which start on June the 15th.

A month before that, on May the 24th, Alonso will face the most important challenge of the year; the Indianapolis 500. A victory in the famous USA oval would mean the Spaniard to be awarded the Triple Crown of Motorsports.

As if Alonso’s schedule wasn’t tight-packed enough, he also has to fulfil his duties as the new ambassador for McLaren. These include helping in the development and testing of their cars for this season and the next. The team from Woking wants to make the most of Fernando Alonso’s experience.

For the time being, Fernando Alonso’s latest adventure has been a friendly race on a snow racing car at the Pas de la Casa circuit in Andorra. Once again, the Spaniard had everyone in awe of his ability to adapt to that new type of machine and surface.

Fernando Alonso’s adaptability and thirst to learn new things have never been as strong as at this point in his career. He is certainly not afraid to take new paths and face a diverse range of sporting challenges.
