Daniel Ricciardo to replace Carlos Sainz at McLaren in 2021 and 2022

Shortly before the announcement of the signing of Carlos Sainz by Ferrari for 2020 and 2021, it has been revealed his replacement in Woking.

The chosen one is the Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who will occupy the Spanish seat at McLaren during those two seasons, becoming the partner of the English Lando Norris.

In this way, the Perth racer, who was not happy at Renault due to the low performance of his car, has found a way out of this situation.

However, it was a ‘plan B’, since in reality Daniel Ricciardo, along with Carlos Sainz, started as the favorite to inherit the seat of the four-time champion in Ferrari.

Finally, the offer to become second pilot for the transalpine team, and a contract for 7 million euros (at Epstone it reaches 20 million euros), were not attractive enough.

With this move, the Perth runner will try to make the climb after his bitter adventure in the Gallic team, where his expectations have not been met. In fact, after leaving a top team like Red Bull at the end of 2018, his professional career has come to a standstill.

At 30, he knows that leading a project like McLaren’s can be a good opportunity – in the medium term – to get back on the path to success.

One of the unknowns that arises will be to know who will be his replacement in the structure of the diamond, although there are already rumors that point to Fernando Alonso or Nico Hulkenberg.
