Honda HRC and their pilot Marc Márquez announced that will continue defending the colours of the Japanese MotoGP team until the end of 2024. Both parties have signed a four-year extension to their current contract, which was due to expire at the end of the current season.
The #93 has expressed his satisfaction with the new agreement: “Since the first year we have achieved success together and I am very happy to continue being part of the Honda family. HRC gives me the confidence to extend this partnership to obtain our common goal and continue our story of success.”
HRC president, Yoshishige Nomura also had the following to say: “We are happy to announce that, after the end of the current season, Marc will stay in the Honda family for four more years”.

The Japanese boss has continued explaining how the negotiations developed: “We started talking a few months ago, as both parties wanted to stay together and continue winning. Marc started his career in the premier class in 2013 and with him, we have won six of the last seven MotoGP titles. As a unique champion, he deserves a unique deal. I am very confident in this partnership and I wish everyone involved continued success.”
The new contract means Honda will keep the six-time MotoGP champion in its ranks for four more years. As the top representative of the Japanese team has explained, the conversations which preceded this agreement started in October 2019, more specifically after the Spaniard sealed his eight World Title at the Thai GP.
The professional MotoGP relationship of the Catalan pilot with the team of the golden wing started in 2013, right after he conquered the Moto2 title in 2012, and will continue until 2024, 12 years in total and into Marc’s 31 years of age.
Honda- Marquez, five contracts
Marc Márquez and the Japanese team have signed a total of five contracts to date. At the 2012 Italian GP, when he was still competing in Moto2, he made the leap to the premier class by the hand of HRC, to team up with Dani Pedrosa. Together they delivered some solid performances in 2013 and 2014. Marc got his first world title as a rookie, a feat that allowed him to have more weight within the team.
Two years after that first title, on the 14th of May 2014 and after the French GP at LeMans, he got his first two-year extension and in June 2016, before the Catalan GP, this was extended once again.
After that, on the 26th of February 2018, his contract was renewed again before the start of the season, which takes us to now when this has again been extended until the end of 2024, a rather long extension for MotoGP standards.

After this announcement, the champion from Cervera can focus on getting his seventh title. Also, this year he will be sharing the box with his brother Alex Márquez, which could give him that extra bit of motivation. Alex got the job after winning the Moto2 title.
So far there have been some important moves within the MotoGP driver’s market. Maverick Viñales and Fabio Quartararo announced on the 28th and 29th of January respectively that they will continue as the official Yamaha couple until 2022.
Next to make an announcement could be Suzuki’s Álex Rins and Joan Mir or Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci, all of which most likely will remain in their current formations.
