WEC | Alonso starts testing cars for the World Endurance Championship

By M. C. – photo: twitter FIAWEC | The name Fernando Alonso is nowadays less often mentioned in ‘strictly F1’ circles than in the world of motor sports in general, and for good reason. This year he had a go at the 500 miles of Indianapolis (IndyCar), and it is expected that he will be taking on other challenges across different disciplines next year. One such challenge will most certainly be Le Mans 24 Hours, the greatest of all motor sports’ endurance tests, which will take place on the 16th and 17th of June next year. With this in mind, Alonso already started testing the Toyota last Sunday in Bahrain, where he took part in the World Endurance Champions hip rookie tests with a Toyota TS050 Hybrid prototype, the vehicle that he is expected to use in next year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. All sides were satisfied with the results after he accomplished 113 laps and one of the best times.

More tests in Aragón

The tests continue today at Motorland Aragón (Alcañiz Spain). This time he will drive the United Autosports’ Ligier JS P217 for the first time, in anticipation of his announced appearance with the team in the 2018 Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.

But Alonso’s intentions go further. It is said that he might compete throughout the whole of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Only time will tell…
