Petter Solberg negotiates with two brands to lead his own WRC team

2003 Rally World Champion Petter Solberg wants to return to the specialty as the head of his own WCR team in 2022. In fact, the former Norwegian runner has acknowledged that he is in talks with two brands to form his own sports structure.

“I am working with a couple of brands to be able to enter the WRC in 2022. But I am not in a hurry, as I am aware that we are in an emergency situation. So if it is not in 2022, it will be in 2023 or 2024. But I am clear about my dream and my goal: to create an official winning team. ”

However, the also double winner of the RallyCross Competition (2014, 2015) has made it clear that his intentions at the head of the future team would be to have some independence in decision-making. “I want a team, but in my own way, without political interference,” he said former Nordic racer.

Although he has not mentioned it, everything points that one of the firms with he is negotiating with would be Subaru, the Japanese manufacturer with whom he conquered the championship seventeen years ago. If the project is finally confirmed, it would be very beneficial for a championship, which, after the unexpected departure of Citroën in late 2019, only has the participation of three manufacturers: Toyota, Hyundai and Ford.
