By M. C. – photo: nascar.com | It is all over. We bid farewell to NASCAR for this season. After 36 weeks of races, the Monster Energy Cup has come to an end with a spectacular show at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The ending has matched the intensity of this thrilling American competition with a fierce battle between Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. over the very last laps.
At the end Busch had to go home empty handed as the Toyota 78 managed to keep up the pressure and crossed the chequered flag in first position winning at the same time the cup champion title. It was Truex’s moment of glory, earning himself a magnificent finale to a truly remarkable season where he has climbed to the top of the podium in seven further occasions.
The other three aspirants Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski have all won previous editions of the Cup and were all very close from repeating their feat this time. It is a well deserved first however, for Truex Jr.
A thrilling final
Beyond the resulting classification however, the NASCAR final was a top-level thrilling experience. Above all was the winner’s sheer excitement who acknowledged that this victory to be a dream come true. His whole team and specially his girlfriend Sherry Pollex, in the middle of a battle against cancer herself, were sharing in his joy. But there were more emotional moments during the day as NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. said goodbye to the competition. A personal friend of Truex, both shared central stage while receiving their individual tributes. It should be !
