Hyundai WRT intense summer program: two rallies in two weeks

Despite the fact that the World Rally Championship has been paralyzed since mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis, the Hyundai WRT team has scheduled an intense summer competition program.

Thus, its official WRC drivers, Ott Tänak, who raced Viru Rally at home July 4-5, Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo will participate in two rallies in just fourteen days this summer.

This ‘marathon’ will start with the Rally di Roma Capitale, the opening round of the European Championship to be held from July 24 to 26. In the Italian test, the three ‘tenors’ will be at the wheel of their respective i20 Coupe WRC.

Just five days later they will move north to take the start at the Rally di Alba, scheduled between July 31 and August 2, also on asphalt.

Tänak and Neuville will compete again on board their i20 WRCs, while Sordo will change his usual car for an i20 R5 from the local BRC lineup.

With just another five days off, the Belgian and Kärla-born will travel to Estonia. There, in the latter’s home country, they will compete in the next september´s Estonia Rally WRC.

At the end of this journey, the team’s sports chief, Andrea Adamo, hopes that his “army” will be ready to fight for the World Cup, whose reactivation is still in the air due to the pandemic.
