Two-time champion of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Spanish Fernando Alonso, recently stated in an interview on the 24 Hours of Le Mans Instagram channel his intention to return to the legendary French race.
Not surprisingly, the Asturian driver maintains an intense romance with the French round, where he c the victory in 2018 & 2019. In addition, Le Mans was thie las year the scene of his title in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the Toyota TS050 Hybrid number 8 together with the Japanese Kazuki Nakajima and the Swiss Sébastian Buemi in 2019.
Faced with the possibility of running again on the Le Sarthe Circuit, the Ovense runner answered that “I would say yes, it might happen. I think the hypercar concept is an interesting project. I am aware that the Endurance World Championship will experience a good stage together with IMSA. There are many topics in the future that will boost endurance racing and I want to be part of it. But I don’t know when it will happen“.
And although he did not specify a date, he insisted that there are plans to return to compete on a track where he increased his brilliant record:
“My presence at Le Mans has been incredible after achieving two wins in two participations, so I want to try to get a third win, that´s for sure. I don’t know when it will happens, but my experience at Le Mans is totally idyllic. We will see when ”.
