Craig Breen: A Tribute to a Talented and Inspirational Driver

The motorsport community is in shock following the sudden, tragic passing of Irish driver, Craig Breen. Breen lost his life during a pre-even test before this weekend’s Croatia Rally, leaving his fellow drivers and fans in mourning.

 

Craig Breen was a highly accomplished and respected driver, having achieved several victories in the Rally of Ireland and a podium finish in the World Rally Championship. His passing had a powerful impact on his team, Hyundai Motorsport, who announced that they would be running a special livery at this weekend’s competition in his honor. This new livery pays homage to Breen by featuring his name and racing number in a bold, striking design on the car’s hood. Besides that, the team also stated that they would be donating a portion of their prize money to a charity of Breen’s family’s choosing.

 

In the wake of his passing, several of Breen’s fellow drivers and institutions have expressed their sorrow. Ott Tänak, who was Breen’s teammate at Hyundai Motorsport, tweeted “I have no words, it’s hard to understand. Craig was an incredible driver, but also a wonderful person. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.” Other teams in the WRC have also shared their condolences, with Toyota Gazoo saying, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Craig Breen. He was a true competitor and a sportsman. Our thoughts are with his family and the entire Hyundai team.”, while Citroën Racing described him as a “talented and friendly competitor.”

 

The loss of Craig Breen left a hole in the motorsport world and, as the WRC community prepares to honor his memory at the upcoming rally, there is a sense of sadness, but also of determination to continue his legacy. Breen will always be a true champion, remembered for his warm and friendly personality, which made him a beloved member of our community.
