It is two out of two for Yamaha in Qatar. After Maverick Viñales´ triumph last week, his teammate Fabio Quartararo has repeated the feat at the Doha GP in Losail. There goes another triumph for the Iwatta brand in Ducati territory.
The Italian squad had to make do with the remaining places podium places and only thanks to the bikes of the Pramac Racing satellite team. Johann Zarco was thus second after overtaking his teammate Jorge Martín in the final lap.
The Spaniard, by the way, gave a crushing display of dominant riding, leading the race right until the final laps, with a level of confidence rarely seen on a rookie. Despite losing both the lead and the second place in the end, the pilot from Madrid gave a masterclass performance, even more so considering this was only his second World Championship race.

Martín held tightly to the pole at the start ahead of Zarco and of an inspired Aleix Espargaró. Following Aprilia’s Catalan pilot came Suzuki heavy weapons, Álex Rins and Joan Mir, which engaged on a meteoric comeback to close the top five.
Viñales, on the other hand, and true to his style, faltered as the traffic lights went out, falling to the eleventh position. After six laps, Jorge Martín maintained his relentless pace. Behind him, a battle was breaking out between his French partner and Alex Rins (Suzuki).
Just one place and a few meters behind, a sensational Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) was containing reigning world champion Joan Mir (Suzuki) and ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia (official Ducati).

Quartararo´s comeback
At eight laps from the finish line, the three Ducatis; Martín, Zarco and Bagnaia, were chased by Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha). ‘El Diablo’ performed his ferocious comeback, briefly losing the fourth place to Rins only to recover it straight away. Ducati’s Jack Miller and Yamaha´s Maverick Viñales were at this point in sixth and seventh place respectively, still trying to hunt down those at the top.
The main protagonist at the final stretch of the race was Quartararo. His big moment came when he stole third place from Bagnaia leaving only the two Pramac Racing machines of Martín and Zarco ahead of him. At four laps to go, he devoured the Frenchman before dealing the final blow to Martin and flying away towards the fourth MotoGP victory of his career.
The Frenchman came in second after overtaking the Spanish rookie in one the last corners. In any case, memorable performance from the Madrid rookie in his second MotoGP race. Just outside the podium came Rins, one place above a disappointed Maverick, fifth.
