Sébastien Loeb would take Alonso’s seat at Toyota for the Dakar

Sébastien Loeb could inherit the seat that Fernando Alonso will surely vacate in the Toyota team for the Dakar. The most successful driver in WRC history has a score to settle with the legendary raid, and he wants to win at all costs.

If confirmed, in his fifth presence in the raid (2016-2019), the Frenchman would complete a magical quartet together with other Dakar champions: the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (2011, 2015 and 2019), the South African Giniel De Villiers (2009 ) and the Dutch Berhard Ten Brinke.

The talks between the Frenchman and Overdrive Racing, the structure that manage Toyota, have already started. The possibility of Loeb getting on the fourth Toyota Hilux 4×4 seems high.

The rumors have intensified after it was made public that the Alsatian has made a test with one of the vehicles of the formation. The sports director of the Belgian team, Jean-Marc Fortin, has confirmed in a statement that the nine-time WRC champion has already ridden with one of his cars.

“Loeb participated a few weeks ago in a test session at the wheel of one of our T3s, a small buggy that debuted in the last edition of the Dakar. Seb was planning to race that vehicle in the UAE. However, COVID-19 ended this project. During the test, Sébastien Loeb told me that he wanted to return to the Dakar with a car that would allow him to fight for the victory”.
