Audi to abandon DTM in late 2020

Audi has announced his farewell to the DTM (German Tourism Championship) at the end of the current 2020 season.

The Ingolstadt firm has adopted this decision to focus efforts on its program in Formula E, the Electric Single Seater Motorsport Championship, in which it has obtained good results with its ABT Schaeffer team, and in continuing supporting external teams in other competitions around the planet.

Likewise, the industrial policy of the Volkswagen AG Group, to which Audi belongs, is oriented towards new technologies in the sector, which may have influenced its decision to abandon the DTM.

Nor can it be ignored that behind this measure are the economic losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Be that as it may, the four-rings manufacturer leaves orphaned the category of his country, and mortally wounded. Not in vain will only BMW remain as a participant.

Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Audi Board of Directors, has said goodbye to the DTM with the following statement:

“Audi has shaped the DTM and the DTM has shaped Audi, but now we will focus on driving our transformation into a sustainable, electric sports mobility provider.”
